Raised in the Blue Ridge Mountains, shaped by the pulse of New York City, and now grounded in the glow of South Florida—I’m Rev. Dr. Christopher Slough, fondly known as The Modern Officiant, crafting one-of-a-kind ceremonies for life’s most meaningful moments. Whether you're celebrating love, loss, or change, I design ceremonies that don’t just mark the moment—they make it unforgettable.
I am an ordained reverend rooted in non-denominational spirituality, devoted to honoring the sacredness in all people and all paths. My work is inspired by the teachings of Unity, which affirm that every soul is divine and that love is the highest form of truth. I have been conferred a Doctorate of Divinity in recognition of my dedication to spiritual leadership, inclusive service, and the celebration of all faith traditions. As a lifelong scholar of Interfaith Studies, I bring a depth of understanding and a spirit of reverence to each ceremony—crafting experiences that uplift, unify, and honor the universal light that connects us all.
As a certified grief and bereavement support specialist and acclaimed storyteller, I believe ceremonies are more than rituals—they’re reflections of where we’ve been, what we’ve loved, and who we're becoming. Whether it’s a wedding, a farewell, or a turning point in your journey, I hold space with intention, presence, and the deep knowing that Spirit shows up exactly when we do.
But my journey didn’t begin in a pulpit—it started on the dance floors of New York City, where I was first moved by Gospel House, a music genre that blends soulful beats with spiritual uplift. That spark led me to produce and DJ a groundbreaking event series called Faith Lift—a nightlife experience that lit up venues in both NYC and Miami, bringing together diverse communities to move, connect, and celebrate through music. Time Out New York famously dubbed it "The Most Inclusive Party in NYC," and it quickly became a sanctuary of sound and spirit—where the dance floor became sacred ground.
That same spirit flows through every ceremony I lead today. Whether I’m officiating a beachfront wedding, leading a celebration of life, or co-creating a ceremony that reimagines tradition, my mission is simple: to reflect the light within you—and to honor your truth—with dignity, compassion, and heart.
Let’s celebrate life’s sacred moments together —modern, meaningful, and made just for you.
With grace & gratitude,
— Rev. Dr. Christopher Slough
